Brought to You By the Letter T: Toys, TV, Talk Shows, and Trailers

Beyond the Panels rewinds the week and takes a look at all that happened beyond the pages of comic books.

DC Entertainment will be showcasing a slew of new collectible toys at Toy Fair 2016. New items include Premium Action Figures, DC Comics Designer Series figures, and a new wave of Batman Animated action figures, to name a few. If you’re one of the many who are unable to attend the show, DC Entertainment was nice enough to put together a previews feature video.

Also this week, Grant Gustin (star of The CW’s The Flash) sent out a live pic from the set of CBS’s Supergirl, alongside the show’s star Melissa Benoist, where he’ll be making a guest appearance.

If there were any doubts about whether this was going to come to fruition or be lost to rumors, this picture from Grant now confirms that the 18th episode of Supergirl, “Worlds Finest,” is in production and happening, to the delight of fans everywhere.

AMC sent out a press release announcing a new show entitled, “Geeking Out” (working title), today. This late-night talk show will be hosted by Kevin Smith, known for “Comic Book Men” and “Clerks”, and Greg Grunberg, of “Heroes Reborn” and “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens,” fame.

The show is expected to premier at this year’s San Diego Comic Con in late July, with eight more episodes scheduled for late summer.

“The 30-minute show will take a timely look at pop culture through a fanboy lens and feature talk, clips, celebrity interviews and out-of-the-studio segments.”

Batman V Superman made another huge splash this week releasing their official “final trailer,” until the movie debuts on March 25th. (TRAILER SPOILERS AHEAD) The trailer showcases a scene wherein Batman takes on a group of thugs, flipping around the room in the most Batman-esque fight scene I’ve seen to date. Beyond that, we get to take a look at a little more interaction between Batman and Superman, even seeing a climactic punch from Superman that Batman blocks, and the utter confusion on Superman’s face afterward (SPOILERS END). The video is linked below for those who wish to watch it before reading through the spoilers section.

And lastly, if you’ve been living in a cave on the moon for the last six months, Deadpool opens today in theaters everywhere. And while that’s news enough, what’s exciting is that according to Hollywood Reporter, on February 9th it was learned that Fox is rolling the dice on the “Merc with a mouth” even further. Before this movie has earned its first dollar, Fox has already sent Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote Deadpool, to work on a script for the movie’s follow-up.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone as Deadpool has been forecast to earn $65-70 million on its opening holiday weekend.
